The Heart Shaped Face

This face is wider at the forehead and narrower at the chin.  When picking out jewelry for this type of face it is beneficial to pick piece that will give width to the jaw line.

This can be accomplished by wearing earrings whose designs are wider at the bottom and narrower at the top (pear, tear or triangle) and that have some movement.  This will cause the eye to move from side to side giving the illusion of width.

To balance out the width of the forehead necklaces with strong horizontal lines of chunky beads will compliment your beauty.

As to hairstyles the perfect style for you is one that is chin length and lots of curls.  If you do want a longer look make sure the hairstyle has a lot of height to it.  The height will bring the attention to the hairstyle and not the face.  Bangs are not a must, nor are they a NO-NO.  If you do want bangs make sure they are not the blunt style but some thing with wisps or to the side of the face. Check out these celebrities who have oval faces to see their hairstyles and choice of jewelry.

Michelle Pfeiffer, Ashley Judd, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Claudia Schiffer, and Lucy Lawless just to name a few.

Here are some jewelry items that will flatter your face.

The Square Face

A square face has clearly defined angles and a definitely resembles a box.  There are two different types of faces in this group.  One truly resembles a square and the other more resembles a rectangle.  Thought they require some different adornments to accent them they do share the need for jewelry that has curves in it to off set the sharp angles.

The strong wide chin of a square face needs a necklace with a focal point to draw the eye downward and long dangling earrings.  However, the rectangular face (more long than wide) needs to have that focal point close to the face rather than hanging down; so a choker would work better than a lariat or opera length necklace. A rectangular face should also avoid really long dangling earrings and opt for the shorter versions.  Though studs will look good, a small single drop round or curved style dangle will look good also.   Since circle jewelry is a real favorite right now you are in luck, and will find many different pieces to choose from ;)

For both the square and rectangular face a single drop round bead earring or a hoop type earring will bring out the best in your face, as well as large flat round beads or a few of them strung together to form a necklace or choker.  The beautiful fresh water pearl coin earrings and necklaces will go well with your natural beauty.

As to hair style, short-to-medium length hair that emphasize your cheekbones, especially with wave or roundness around the face, coming towards your face. Wispy bangs. Off-center parts, layering, height at the crown. If your hair is straight you may want to consider a body wave, adding some curl or wave to the hair will achieve a nice balance to the straight features of your face shape. Most of all avoid cuts that end at the jaw line or are above it, these are the worst for someone with a square face.

A good way to determine what cut will look good on you is to look a celebrity pictures of stars who have faces of your type.  The spend many hours making sure they look good, so why not cash in on it ;)   A few stars with your face type are Demi Moore, Angelina Jolie, Katie Holms, Jessica Simpson and Sandra Bullock.

Working with what God Gave you part 1

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

In this series of posts I will deal with how to pick jewelry that will flatter your face shape.  Later on we will discuss body shapes and necklines.

Let us start with a round face shape.

If your face is round you will want to keep away from designs and beads with a round overall shape.  Also keep away from chokers and go with longer length necklaces that will create the illusion of having a longer face. If you really want to wear a choker then try and find one with a hanging or elongated center pendant or stone.  Wear necklaces with angular or irregular shaped beads or different size elongated drops (like teardrop shaped beads or pendants) will also help to add to the illusion of length.  Chose earrings wear square, rectangular, elongated teardrops or elongated ovals.  Any shape or style that will bring the eye downward will accomplish the desired effect.  You also want to keep away from rounded necklines on your tops as well.  V-neck, boat neck or square neck tops will give a pleasing contrast to a round face.

You are probably thinking that circles are in style and therefore you want to wear them to be in style.  Remember it is better not to be a fashion plate and look spectacular than to dress as fashion dictates and look awful!

To get the fashion look of circles without fighting your facial features wear jewelry with elongated ovals instead of perfectly round shapes.  This type of jewelry will flatter you, while giving the illusion of circles.

Here are some beauty tips for you :)

To make your face appear thinner, sweep bronzer over your temples, in the hollow under your cheekbones and under your chin using a fluffy brush.  Highlight your forehead, bridge of your nose, cheekbones and tip of your chin with a lighter powder.
Avoid slicked, up hair dos and opt for the longer hair styles.  Fluffy is also better than flat.  Shag cuts and layered bangs help to elongate the face.

Here are some items from our jewelry that make those will a round face look beautiful!

Extend your necklace wardrobe!

Monday, February 23rd, 2009
Ever wish you necklace was longer???  You can make it so by adding a chain link bracelet to the end.  The only thing you must make sure of is that the clasps are compatible.  That is why I try to purchase my jewelry with lobster claw clasps.  Toggle clasps can be utilized the same way as long as the toggle bars and loops are compatible.  This method can be used as long as you are not wearing your hair up or if you have short hair :)   If you are wearing an outfit with a collar then it doesn’t matter whether or not you can see the back of your neck ;)

If you own two of the same type of necklace with ornate or small clasps you can two necklaces or a necklace and a bracelet together and the clasps will look like they are part of the overall pattern.  I have a lot of necklaces that are alike in different lengths because I like the layered look.  I usually will wear three necklaces together.  17″  24″ and 36″  or some variation on that theme.  It is important the necklaces be at least 4″ different in length to get the layer look.  It can be more than 4″ but I do not recommend it being less.

To lengthen by 2″ – 6″ I recommend buying necklace extenders.  Necklace extenders are pieces of chain with various types of clasps and rings to allow you to extend the length of your necklace.  These are used when the typical 7″ bracelet adds just too much length to the necklace.

Here are two of our necklace extenders.

Fashion Trends Fall/Winter 2007

Friday, August 24th, 2007

Fall fashion trends are really exciting.  The colors that will be making a big splash are absolutely yummy!  Browns will once again be prominent, but they will be accented with luscious burnt ochre, red chili pepper and even shades of Aqua.  Blues will be making a big splash too and they will be accented with shale green, green moss and even some dusky lavenders.  The big hit though will be your purple wine color clothing accented with lemon curry and cashmere rose.  With these colors although your wardrobe will tone down with the advent of the Fall season it won’t be totally lacking of stand out color.

Super long and multi-strand necklaces will also be used to add pizzazz to your fall wardrobe, as well as lariats of different lengths.  Also due to the use of the three quarter length sleeve this fall you can once again wear multiple bracelets along with your layered necklaces.

Here are a few pieces that will go nicely with your fall wardrobe.

The Strapless Neckline

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

This is the neckline that is good for any type of jewelry!  Consider your upper torso a canvas on which you will paint the picture you wish with your jewelry :)   Show off delicate chains, ornate chokers or fabulous pendants, all will look good on this neckline.  Your earring also can be any length, delicate or bold.  The only restriction is that you keep them in balance with the necklace.  Some will tell you that if you wear big chandelier earrings you should not wear a pendant, I disagree.  I think you can match a pendant to your earrings and have them compliment each other; just don’t wear pieces that fight each other for attention.

Shoulder duster earrings go great with this type of neckline.  With shoulder dusters I would recommend a delicate Y necklace.

This completes our articles on necklines.

The Turtle Neck – Winters Friend :)

Monday, December 11th, 2006

When wearing a turtle neck the main thing to remember is make sure the necklace is long enough so it DOESN’T CROWD THE COLLAR.  The second thing to remember is that the necklace will not be resting on you skin so the beads should be bold, colorful, of good size and shape so they stand out on the fabric.  Don’t fight the fabric either, if it is a color full fabric pick the main color you wish to bring out and wear mono colored beads of that color.  Earring should be short so the don’t touch the high collar or long enough to keep clear of the top edge.

Matinee length necklaces are a great length for turtle necks.  Multi-strands can be worn also, provided that the inner strand is at least 2 inches below the collar of the turtle neck.  A lariat is also a good choice with the turtle neck because it’s length can be adjusted to fit.

Bold square shaped earrings go well with a turtle neck, they compliment the round lines of a turtle neck.  Ear Threads are a great match too because you decide the length of the ear thread :) , above or below the collar.  Which ever YOU prefer ;)

Here are some pieces that will go well with a turtle neck.

V-Neck Neckline

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

A V-neck is the best one for showing off your favorite pendant of dangle necklace.  An added bonus is that it will not only will show off your pendants and dangles, it will also give a slimming effect to your over all appearance :)   Add a pair of long dangling earrings and it will further accentuate the longer lines.  Make sure you wear necklaces that don’t fight the V-neck, this will make you look chunkier and destroy the symmetry of the V.  Another thing to remember is to match your choice of necklace with the depth of the V.  Don’t wear a short pendant with a plunging V-neck or a long dangle with a short V-neck.  It is good to match the length of your dangling earrings with the length of your necklace too.  You don’t want long dangles over powering you short pendant necklace or the short dangles disappearing in the over all picture against your long dramatic pendant necklace.  If you want to wear a choker type necklace with this neckline it can be done if the choker has a dangle hanging from the center of the necklace that fits into the V.  If you do this you should also wear long dangling earrings that compliment the length of your center dangle.

Here are a few of our jewelry pieces that will look good with a V-neck.

Necklines and Jewelry

Saturday, October 14th, 2006

My next series of articles will deal with necklines and the types of jewelry that goes well with them.  As a general rule of thumb a necklace should either be two inches above or below you top’s neckline.  And guess what!  Your thumb is about two inches so use it to decide if the necklace length is good ;)

The first neck line we will look at is the round neckline.  A lot depends on how high or low that scoop neck is.

When wearing a high scoop neck remember you don’t want anything too bulky.  You don’t want to make the area around your neck too crowded.  Chunky or too many strands will give your neckline the “over stuffed” appearance.  A strand of delicate pearls or plain chain necklace with dainty briolettes will usually do the trick.  You also want to keep away from long dangling earrings that will compete with the neckline for space.  Round or curved earrings will work with the neckline and not fight it.

If the scoop is a deep one then you can wear multi strand chokers or short necklaces that leave two inches between the last row and the neckline.  Large chunky necklaces will look good here also :)   With the deep scoop dangling earrings will go well but keep away from the very dramatic ones ;)

Here are a few pieces that would look good with a round neckline.
