The Goddess gathered all her bounty and knew that it was good. She pined that she would soon be without her treasures once again as they were dispersed among the children of the earth for their food. Vulcan smiling took his stones and melted them in his mountain furnace making gems to mirror her fruit’s colors and had his craftsmen make them into a necklace for her to reward her for the bounty she gave away each year to the children of the earth. Demeter sulked, summer waned and winter came.
